Tharrington Smith proudly announces that our esteemed attorney, Roger Smith, Jr., delivered a heartfelt speech at the Wake County Justice Center’s Memorial Session of Court on June 7, 2024. The session honored the legacy of prominent attorneys, including Roger’s late father, Roger Smith, Sr., who made significant contributions to the legal profession.
In his speech, Roger, Jr. paid tribute to his father, a former president of the Wake County Bar, sharing personal anecdotes and reflecting on his father’s profound impact on his career and the legal community. Roger, Jr. expressed deep gratitude to his family, colleagues, and the Wake County Bar for their ongoing support and dedication.
“I was so lucky to have worked with him for 20 years,” Roger, Jr. said, recalling his father’s relentless pursuit of excellence and his role as a mentor to many lawyers. He also highlighted his father’s belief that practicing law is “much more art than science,” emphasizing the dedication and thoroughness that defined his approach to every case.
Roger, Jr.’s speech resonated deeply with attendees as he shared his father’s wisdom and the lessons he imparted through his famous “Don’t Drink Coffee with Your Client” speech, which continues to inspire legal professionals. The session concluded with Roger, Jr. reading his father’s poem “Spring Lizard,” capturing the essence of life’s simplicity and the importance of living fully.
