We are excited to announce that Russell Babb, our co-managing partner of Tharrington Smith, is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Attorney at Law Magazine. The cover story, titled “Russell Babb: Criminal Defense is the Coolest Thing in the World,” explores Russell’s dynamic career and his exceptional dedication to criminal defense.
In the article, Russell reflects on his early career, including his passion for football. “When I was young, I wanted to be a professional football player. That was my dream,” he recalls. Russell’s standout performance as an offensive lineman at UNC, where he played in multiple bowl games and was awarded the Jim Tatum Award, laid the foundation for his leadership skills.
His journey from football to law is both inspiring and illustrative of his commitment to his clients. Russell shares, “I represented a young guy who was suspected of being a drug dealer. Police executed a search warrant and found a large amount of marijuana, scales, and cash. I worked that case to death. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.” This case was a turning point that solidified his passion for criminal defense.
Now, as a co-managing partner alongside Evan Horwitz, Russell remains dedicated to maintaining the firm’s esteemed reputation. “The brand is going to stay the same. It’s best articulated by many satisfied clients,” he says. “Everybody deserves a vigorous defense. I’m going to give all my clients maximum effort.”
