Kunal Choksi specializes in education law at Tharrington Smith. Mr.Choksi was born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina and graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelors in Economics and Political Science. He later received his Juris Doctor in 2012 from Duke University School of Law where he participated in the Duke Law Children’s Law Clinic. Before law school, Mr. Choksi worked as a middle school math teacher for Teach For America in New York City. Mr. Choksi is a trial attorney with extensive experience in Federal Court. He was a litigation associate at Sullivan and Cromwell LLP in Washington D.C. focusing on securities law and internal investigations. Mr. Choksi was part of the defense team for a trial under Federal securities law that went to a near-billion dollar verdict. Most recently, Mr. Choksi was a Trial Attorney for the United States Department of Justice, Tax Division where he was lead counsel representing the United States in civil tax cases in Federal District Court and Bankruptcy Court. Mr. Choksi joined Tharrington Smith in 2020. Outside of the office, Kunal enjoys playing golf and rooting for the Tar Heels. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Raleigh.
