Sonya DuBree is a third generation Raleigh native with extensive ties to the Raleigh community that she loves calling home. For most of her life, she has lived and worked within a five-mile radius of the old Rex Hospital where she was born. She received her doctorate from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 1994 and immediately started practicing family law with Marshall and DuBree, PLLC. When Bill Marshall retired, she opened up Raleigh Family Law in an office building she bought a stone’s throw from where she was born.
Sonya owned and operated Raleigh Family Law for 13 years. She has handled hundreds of clients by helping good people go through perhaps the worst part of their lives. Though she had a thriving practice, she decided to join Tharrington Smith, LLP, where she became a partner in 2024 to focus solely on practicing the law without the demands of running a boutique business.
Sonya is married to Rick Gammon, a prominent criminal defense lawyer. She has one son from a previous marriage, Luke DuBree Morton. She is proud to brag that Luke is a rising senior in the Honors College Program at UNC-Chapel Hill. He, too, plans to pursue his juris doctorate and law license.
When not at work, she enjoys running, shagging at Loafers, and spending time with her family and chocolate lab down at the Crystal Coast.
