Jack Salt professional headshot - editedRaleigh, NC – September 20, 2024 – Tharrington Smith is thrilled to welcome Jack Salt as an associate attorney in our Education Law Section. Jack’s strong background in public education and impressive legal experience make him a valuable addition to our team.

Growing up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Jack was deeply influenced by his family’s background in public education-his father was a dedicated public-school teacher. He earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College, double-majoring in English and Political Science, and graduated magna cum laude. Following college, Jack worked as a college adviser with the College Advising Corps, assisting first-generation and underrepresented students with the college admissions process.

Jack earned his J.D. with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he actively engaged in education law. As the Executive Forum Editor of the North Carolina Law Review, he contributed to significant research on education law issues, interned with the North Carolina Department of Justice in the Education Section, and participated in UNC Law’s Pro Bono Program.

“My family’s roots in public education, combined with my desire to support school systems, attracted me to Tharrington Smith,” Jack said. “The breadth and depth of the Education Section’s work are remarkable, and I’m excited to contribute to a practice that serves public schools and students across North Carolina.”

Melissa Michaud, a partner in the Education Law Section who worked with Jack during his prior summer internship, shared, “Having observed Jack’s skills during his previous time with us, I am delighted to welcome him back. His understanding of the complexities of education law and his commitment to serving public schools make him a valuable addition to our team.”

Jack’s previous contributions as a summer associate revealed his strong interest in the diverse work of the Education Law Section, including special education, employment law, public records, and constitutional issues. His experiences solidified his desire to return and make an impact in this important field.

We are proud to welcome Jack Salt to our Education Law Section, where he will continue our long-standing commitment to serving public schools throughout North Carolina.
