Raleigh, NC – April 21, 2026 – Tharrington Smith, LLP is pleased to announce that Micah Deveaux has joined the firm as an associate in its Education Law section.
Micah brings a strong background in administrative and government law, with experience representing state agencies and working within the North Carolina administrative courts. Prior to joining the firm, he served as an Assistant Attorney General with the North Carolina Department of Justice, where he represented the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in licensure matters involving adult care homes and mental health facilities. He also handled criminal appeals and advised the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services on legal matters.
Earlier in his career, Micah clerked at the North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings, focusing on personnel and special education matters. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Carmen T. Mullen in the Fourteenth Circuit of South Carolina, gaining experience in both criminal and civil proceedings. Micah earned his Juris Doctor from William & Mary Law School, where he was a member of the Moot Court Team, and his Bachelor of Science in Political Science, summa cum laude, from Charleston Southern University.
“I was originally introduced to Tharrington Smith while clerking at the Office of Administrative Hearings,” said Micah. “Every interaction I had with the firm’s attorneys was positive, and I was consistently impressed by their filings and approach at trial. It quickly became clear that Tharrington Smith would be an excellent place to build my career in education law.”
Micah’s interest in education law is also shaped by personal experience. His mother has been a lifelong educator, and his brother lives with muscular dystrophy, giving him a meaningful perspective on the role educational systems play in individuals’ lives.
“I hope to contribute to the success of North Carolina’s school systems,” Micah added. “Education is foundational to both a child’s development and society as a whole. I look forward to helping protect and support our schools while working to ensure students have access to the best possible education.”
“Micah’s background in administrative law and his experience within state government bring valuable insight to our Education Law practice,” said Melissa Michaud, Partner in the Education Law section. “We are pleased to welcome him to the firm.”
