Tharrington Smith family law attorney and former Wake County District Court Judge Alice Stubbs has been appointed by Governor Mike Easley to the North Carolina Ethics Commission. The Ethics Commission has authority to review government officials’ disclosures regarding economic interests, to give general guidance on avoiding conflicts of interest and to issue advisory opinions. The Ethics Commission’s authority extends to all three branches of state government, but complaints against judges and legislators will be referred to other panels. The Ethics Commission can also hear complaints about and investigate violations of North Carolina’s lobbying laws. Ms. Stubbs will serve as one of eight board members.

Ms. Stubbs was originally appointed to the Commission in 2006 and again in 2010.
