Jaye Meyer Appointed To The North Carolina Disciplinary Hearing Commission

Tharrington Smith, LLP is excited to announce that Jaye Meyer was appointed to the North Carolina Disciplinary Hearing Commission on July 16th. This is a tremendous honor for any attorney, and Tharrington Smith, LLP is thrilled to be represented by Meyer with her nomination.

The Disciplinary Hearing Commission (DHC) is an independent agency that hears contested disciplinary cases when a lawyer is alleged to have violated the Rules of Professional Conduct. The DHC conducts the trial, applies the law, and decides what disciplinary sanctions are appropriate.

Meyer, a member of Tharrington Smith, LLP’s Family Law section, has been with the firm for nearly 30 years. She earned her J.D. with High Honors in 1990 from the University of North Carolina, and she holds a B.A. cum laude from Wake Forest University. She has shown staunch dedication to the betterment of family law practice and the legal profession at large in our state through multiple avenues of service.

Prior to her appointment to the DHC, Meyer served on the North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Council from 1996 to 1999 (Chair from 2000 to 2001), on the Family Law Continuing Legal Education Curriculum Committee (Chair from 2000-2001). She has served on the North Carolina State Bar Family Law Specialization Committee, and as past Chair of that Committee. She served most recently on the North Carolina Board of Law Examiners from 2007 to 2017, and as its Chair during the last two years of her tenure (2015-2017).

“I am honored to be appointed to this position. I truly enjoyed my years of service on the Board of Law Examiners, and I look forward to returning to service for the State Bar,” said Meyer.

Tharrington Smith, LLP is excited to congratulate Meyer on this huge honor.
