N.C. Business Woman Spared Prison in Tax Evasion Scheme

A North Carolina businesswoman was sentenced to probation earlier this month after admitting to evading payment of $365,000 in taxes. The case was heard in the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. The government argued for an active prison sentence, and supported the U.S. Probation Office’s conclusion that the advisory guidelines for the Defendant was 24-30 months of active imprisonment.

The Defendant was represented by Douglas E. Kingsbery of Tharrington Smith, LLP in Raleigh, North Carolina.
