A United States District Judge sentenced a North Carolina man to three years of probation for his role in a five-year-long tax evasion scheme. The man used false federal identification numbers to conceal more than $700,000.00 in taxable income from the Internal Revenue Service. The defense persuaded the Judge that a downward variance under the United States Sentencing Guidelines was appropriate. The defendant was represented by Douglas E. Kingsbery of Tharrington Smith, LLP.
