Hill Allen is a partner in the firm and handles a broad range of civil and criminal litigation. Mr. Allen is an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated Lawyer, and has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America®’s Criminal Defense, White Collar Section since 2012, in North Carolina Super Lawyers since 2009, and in Business North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” Criminal Section since 2004.
Russell Babb is a partner in the firm focusing his practice in the area of criminal and civil litigation. Coming to Tharrington Smith from the Public Defender’s Office, Mr. Babb has represented criminal defendants at all levels of state court in North Carolina. He is an American Bar Foundation Fellow and has previously been recognized by Business North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” Criminal Section in 2012 and 2015.
Jill Jackson is a Family Law Section partner and focuses her practice on the complex matters relating to family and matrimonial law. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law and an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated Lawyer. She has been included in the Family Law section of Best Lawyers in America®, since 2012, was recognized as a “Rising Star” by North Carolina Super Lawyers magazine from 2009 through 2013, and included in their main list since 2014 and on their Top 50 Women Lawyers List in 2015. Ms. Jackson has been honored by Business North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” Family Law Section since 2009.
Alice Stubbs is a partner in the firm’s Family Law Section. Mrs. Stubbs came to Tharrington Smith in 2006 from the 10th Judicial District Court, where she served as district court judge for more than 2 terms. She is a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Family Law, a Certified Family Financial Mediator, and an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated Lawyer. She has been included in the Family Law section of Best Lawyers in America® and North Carolina Super Lawyers since 2010 and has been previously honored by the Business North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” Family Law Section in 2009, 2011, and 2013-2015.
Evan Horwitz is also a partner in the firm’s Family Law Section. Mr. Horwitz came to Tharrington Smith in 2008 after a one-year clerkship at the North Carolina Supreme Court and six years of private practice at a prior law firm. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law and serves on the Family Law Specialization Committee of the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Horwitz is an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated Lawyer. He has been selected to Super Lawyers North Carolina since 2015, and first appeared on the Best Lawyers in America Family Law Section this year. 2016 is Mr. Horwitz’s first appearance on Business North Carolina Magazine’s Legal Elite Family Law Section.
Published in January each year since 2002, Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite is a listing of the state’s top lawyers categorized by practice area chosen through a balloting process which includes all lawyers living in the state. Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite is the only award of its type that gives every active lawyer in the state the opportunity to participate. The ballot asks one question, “Of the Tar Heel lawyers whose work you have observed firsthand, whom would you rate among the current best in these categories?” The lawyer who receives the most votes in a category becomes a member of Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite Hall of Fame, and is no longer eligible to win inclusion in the annual list. Attorney Wade Smith is a member of Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite Hall of Fame Criminal Law Section since 2004.
