Joshua Renz to their education law practice. Renz is a remarkable legal talent with a strong
background in the field, and Tharrington Smith is eager to add his expertise to their staff of
attorneys.
Renz earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy with a minor in economics at the University of
Alabama at Birmingham before graduating from the University of North Carolina School of Law
in 2020. During law school, he gained extensive legal experience through internships with the
North Carolina Court of Appeals, the Orange/Chatham County District Attorney’s Office, and the
Southern Environmental Law Center, among others. He also served as a Staff Member of the
North Carolina Law Review. Prior to joining Tharrington Smith, Renz served as a law clerk to
Judge Jefferson Griffin at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and also as a law clerk to Justice
Trey Allen at the Supreme Court of North Carolina.
