Eleven Tharrington Smith Lawyers Recognized by North Carolina Super Lawyers®
Eleven Tharrington Smith attorneys have been named by North Carolina Super Lawyers magazine as top attorneys in North Carolina for 2009. Only five percent of the lawyers in the state are recognized by Super Lawyers. Of these attorneys, three were recognized as “Rising Stars,” a distinction accorded to only 2.5% of North Carolina’s lawyers under the age of 40.
The selections for Super Lawyers are made by Law & Politics Magazine. Each year, Law & Politics undertakes a rigorous multi-phase selection process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by an attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area, and a good-standing and disciplinary background check.

Business North Carolina Announces the Winners of 2009’s Legal Elite Award
Nine Tharrington Smith lawyers were honored as Business North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” for 2009. This is an honor bestowed upon 621 attorneys across the state, a figure which represents only 3% of the state’s attorneys.
Business North Carolina began honoring North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” in 2002. The Legal Elite award is unique in that it is the only award of its kind which polls all active members of the North Carolina State Bar. This year, 19,160 active members were asked the following question: “Of the Tar Heel lawyers whose work you have observed, whom would you rate the best in their fields?”
